After campaigning for more than eighteen months, Swarland and Newton Action on Climate (SNAC) were finally successful in persuading NCC to commission a Saturday service for the village. After running for nearly a year, providing a service between Morpeth and Alnwick, the new service has been so successful that it’s been extended until March 2026.

SNAC started by carrying out a survey of local residents which provided the evidence to begin discussions with the County Council. SNAC member Carolyn Letts led on the campaign and said ‘It took a lot of persistence to keep going with the campaign, but it’s made a big difference, especially for people who are no longer able to drive. It’s been great to see friendships being formed on the bus each week – and of course, it means less cars on the road!
